How ELCAS Funding Works

The Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service (ELCAS) scheme is in place to promote lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces. Under the scheme, members of the military can receive financial support to contribute towards their higher level learning. This is designed to support progression of a military career, or with moving into a new career upon leaving the Forces.

At the Institute of Supply Chain Management (IoSCM), we offer a number of accredited qualifications, which are eligible for funding through ELCAS. This includes courses specialising in Management, Logistics and Transport, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Warehousing, Manufacturing, Ports and Shipping and Quality Management.

We understand that taking the next step in your career can be overwhelming, and confusing at times, however IoSCM are here to ensure that applying for an IoSCM course using your ELC is as clear and straight-forward as possible. Read on below to find out more about how ELCAS funding works.

ACQUIRING YOUR ENHANCED LEARNING CREDITS (ELC)

All service personnel are automatically enrolled for ELC. The value of these credits depends on the length of your time in service, credits will be allocated a maximum of 3 times.

There are two distinct tiers of ELC funding depending on your time in service. This will be either £1,000 per year, or £2,000 per year. You can speak with your Education Staff to confirm this.

Many members of the Armed Forces begin planning their post-military career a number of years prior to leaving the military, so even if you aren’t planning on leaving just yet, it’s a good idea to start investigating your options and what would be best suited to your development.

A good starting point is to begin evaluating your desired career path for your current skill set, and looking at new skills that you’d like to achieve on top of this. You can then tailor an IoSCM qualification covering this – enabling you to both accredit your existing skills and learn new knowledge within one course. Our Course Advisors are on hand to support you through this, and have extensive experience in supporting new and existing students from military backgrounds.

USING YOUR ENHANCED LEARNING CREDITS

To be eligible for ELC, you must have served within the military for a minimum of six years. Credits will cover 80% of the total course fees of your chosen course, up to a maximum of £2,000. The remaining balance will be invoiced to you, and can be paid in full or using one of our interest-free payment plans.

You can use a maximum of one credit per financial year, so it’s a good idea to try and plan the most effective way to utilise these. For example, you may start with a Level 3 Diploma in an area you are interested in, and then use your next credit to progress to a Level 5 or 6 the following years. Remember that all IoSCM courses are flexible and can be tailored – meaning you can study a variety of topics within one convenient, online course.
